Calvados Christian Drouin
Established in 1992 near Pont l’Évêque, Maison Drouin is a major player in high-quality spirits made in Normandy. Guillaume Drouin took over the company in 2013 after his father and grandfather, both named Christian. Internationally reputed for its vintage Calvados (apple brandy), Maison Drouin also crafts hard cider, poiré (pear brandy), pommeau (an aperitif made by mixing apple juice and Calvados) and, to round out the range, 4 Norman gins. “People are surprised to discover a new kind of gin,” explains Guillaume. “We have a very technical approach for producing gins of exception.” Maison Drouin will awaken your tastebuds, whether through picnics under the apple trees, blending classes, Calvados tastings (by reservation only), or baking cider bread. Guillaume is experimenting with a new range in collaboration with other renowned distilleries through aging in barrels that served to make whisky in Japan, tequila in Mexico, rum in Jamaica, or, closer to home, Cognac.
Guillaume Drouin had long been toying with the idea of creating an ecofriendly juice from organic cider apples. While reading a press article, Jessie Drouin was touched by the story of Cécile Pelous, designer for the biggest names in fashion, who in the 80s decided to aid the cause of Mother Theresa. From India, Cécile found herself in Nepal. She sold her house in France, bought a smaller one, and with the money she built a refuge for children in Nepal. Guillaume and Jessie Drouin, moved by the same desire to help, united apple juice with charitable work in creating Tree of Love to support the cause of children around the world. Their juice made from cider apples—less sweet, rich in tannin and antioxydents, with lots of depth—is available in bottles of 1 l and 33 cl. Five cents per bottle sold have raised 2500 € in 2 years.
